    What is a Silver Strike?
    A Silver Strike is a Limited Edition Gaming Token which is won from a special slot machine and is in a protective plastic holder. People from all over the world collect, buy, sell and trade these unique gaming tokens.  The first Silver Strikes were won from special slot machines in the Reno/Tahoe area of Nevada in 1992. The tokens have been issued with redeemable values of , , , , , , , 0 and 0.  The most common denomination is . Did you know the first Silver Strikes did not come in the plastic cases/capsules?  Older Silver Strikes have a higher silver content.  As the price of silver increased, the amount of silver decreased.  Today, most strikes are CLAD, or brass with heavy silver plating.
    Sam Boyd's California Hotel:
    Located at 12 East Ogden Avenue, in Las Vegas, Nevada, the California Hotel was built by Sam Boyd in 1975 at a cost of million.  It's located in downtown Las Vegas, near the Fremont Street Experience.  The "Cal", as it is sometimes called, caters to the Hawaiian market.  Sam Boyd introduce vacation packages from the Hawaiian Islands when business was slow.  Some charter airfares were as low as .90. Boyd's Hawaiian marketing is credited with helping to build a large Hawaiian community in Las Vegas - which is sometimes called "the 9th island."

    About Sam Boyd:
    Sam was born April 23, 1910 in Enid Oklahoma. In 1941, Sam arrived in Las Vegas with his family and in his pocket.  He worked up through the ranks around Las Vegas moving from dealer to pit boss and to shift boss.  He saved enough money to invest in the Sahara Hotel.  He became general manager and partner at The Mint in downtown Las Vegas.  In 1968, Sam started managing the Eldorado Casino in Henderson.  In 1975, Sam and his son Bill founded Boyd Gaming and developed and operated the California Hotel in downtown Las Vegas.  They began marketing to an underserved market - tourists of Hawaii.  Their Sam's Town adventure came in 1979 when they decided to cater to the local Las Vegas market.  Sam Boyd was known for his integrity, service and excellence.
